SoLAr TPC box

Prototyping and testing

The novel readout concept introduced by SoLAr is currently undergoing an active phase of design and prototyping. In two runs conducted in 2022 and 2023, we successfully demonstrated the combined readout of charge and light signals, integrating VUV-sensitive SiPMs on a pixelated anode in small-scale setups. We are working to analyze the data collected in these tests to understand the detector response and assess the performance of an experiment based on this technology.

Simulation and performance

Simulations play a crucial role in optimizing detector design to enhance physics performance. The SoLAr simulation aims to determine the optimal coverage of photodetectors on the anode and other sides of the TPC for achieving our target energy resolution. Additionally, it serves as a benchmark for developing and testing new reconstruction algorithms tailored for combined light and charge readout. The simulation is also instrumental for studying expected backgrounds and designing optimal mitigation strategies.
